Cutting an "L" shape from a solid block of wood is very wasteful and costs a lot more than the two-part approach we have chosen for our Hardwood Float Frames. Virtually all of our Float Frame stock is in fact made from smaller clear sections that too often end up as waste. By limiting our consumption to pieces that are 2" X 1/2" and smaller we believe we are helping to encourage sustainable practices at every level. In terms of the product you actually see, our Float Frames are indistinguishable from the "solid" hardwood frames sold by others, our approach simply saves you money and results in a lot fewer trees being consumed. Our most popular stock Float Frame is 1-1/8" tall and designed to work with any of our French Bevel Liner profiles or our 5/8" Custom Panel Liners. We can create Custom Float Frames that are up to 2" tall in any of our six current species of wood: Basswood, Beech, Lt. Mahogany, Maple, Peruvian Walnut, and a colorful koa-like species known as Canarywood. We also offer a couple of small "cap-type" Hardwood Frames and coordinating Inlays in these same beautiful hardwood species. Six inch chevron corners of these mouldings cost $2.00 each or you can order a set of 6" X 1" pieces of all six species gathered together on a chain for just $2.50. In the example above another Float Wrapped Liner is included with the Canarywood Float Frame and inside the Liner we have added a Silk Wrapped Spacer to give the image more depth.
Below: Working from outside inward - a Beech Float Frame set directly against a Silk-Covered Deep Bevel Panel that has a Beech Fillet installed around its opening. The depth and slight bottom-weighting of this Continuous-Covered Liner gives this frame a more dramatic custom look that for an image this size (8" X 10") is still well below $50 for everything shown here.
